COURSE OVERVIEW: This course will utilize various texts, literature, and the Bible to examine the qualities of an effective speaker. Students will learn how to present various types of speeches including an informative speech, interpretative speech, persuasive speech, Bible lesson, drama, and debate. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in various speech competitions throughout this academic year.
TEXTBOOK: Supplemental material including: The Abundant Speaker by Nancy Epperson & David Burke.
GRADING: This is a performance based class; however, there will be several written assignments in preparation for the performances. The grade for this course will be based on participation, effort, the completion of all assignments to grade level standards, and the class presentations. All work must be turned in on time.
WEIGHTING: In class presentation (4 each quarter) 50%
Test/public presentation (1 each quarter) 25%
Homework, Quizzes, Written Work 15%
Effort, participation, improvement 10%
LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Students are expected to complete all assignments. Failure to complete and turn in any assignments by the required deadline will result in an automatic grade reduction in accordance with the High School Student Handbook.
ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments will be posted on the CBDS Website (Net Classroom) for parents and students to access.
